Drawing, painting and infusing stories through movement is the first impulse Luis follows when creating art. With a strong commitment to the emotional truth, whether directing, choreographing or both, Luis creates compositions that are not only visually beautiful but purposeful to the journey the characters, and audience are taking. His versatility and training in various forms of dance and theatre, allow him to create for film, television, musical theatre, events and concerts.
Most recently Luis was the associate director/choreographer of Cirque de Soliel’s Paramour in Hamburg Germany. Among the productions he has directed/choreographed in the United States and abroad are the fantasy musical Ella Es Colombia in Bogota, Colombia with MISI Musicals, the Holland Production of On Your Feet, RAGTIME, TO BE OR NOT TO BE… a Shakespearean Experience, Amigo Duende the Musical, In The Heights, Bountiful, Zuccotti Park, Song of Solomon, Speed the Plow, and Candela Fuerza y Pasión in Lima Peru.
In 2017 Luis directed and choreographed the U.S premier of the Spanish version of In The Heights at GALA Theatre in Washington D.C which received nine 2018 Helen Hayes Awards including Best Musical, Best Direction and Best Choreography.
Luis was the Latin assistant choreographer of the Tony Award winning Broadway musical, In The Heights. Assisting in choreography for films including:”American Gangster”, “Enchanted”, “Step Up 2: The Streets” and the Latin Billboard Awards. He has choreographed animated features of “Dora the Explorer Girls” for Nickelodeon, music videos for WONKA Inc and McDonald’s “Latinos R One”. In theatre he has choreographed Zapata! The Musical (2012 New York Music Theatre Festival), DC-7: The Roberto Clemente Story (that has received critical acclaim in NYC, Puerto Rico, and DC), I’ll Be Damned, The Drop Outs and Serenade which he won an HOLA award for.
